Mountain is a meditative simulation where you observe a solitary peak drifting through space, with your early interactions subtly shaping its appearance and behavior over time. Rather than traditional gameplay, it offers an ambient, discovery-driven experience designed to run passively in the background while revealing its mysteries gradually. It appeals to players seeking contemplative digital art rather than goals or progression.

This isn't a game, it's a screensaver.
From the reviews on the store page, I thought that it would have some kind of events that happen to liven things up. You could grab random objects, arrange them, see the seasons change, maybe there would be some birds flying around. It gave the impression that even though there wasn't a point to the game, the experience alone would be fun, and you'd stick to it just to see what would happen.
But I never saw that. I played for 20 minutes. I spun the camera, i played the keytar, I zoomed in and out, I found every feature on my mountain. It rained, i spun the mountain to make the clouds go away. I saw the little thoughts my mountain had. But nothing happened. I pressed every button, manipulated every control I could think of, and made as many patterns with my mouse as I could imagine, and nothing happened.
I can't honestly recommend it, because I've had more enjoyment from that Windows '95 screensaver about a maze (with the rat in it) than I did from this game. Maybe there's more to it than I thought, maybe you need to leave it on overnight for something to happen. But it's not presented in a way that makes me want to stick around to find out.
This game is-- This game makes me feel like nothing else has before. It's a surreal experience in how you never stop learning new things about this mysterious mountain lost in a black void... The way you feel when you start the game for the first time, and you have to do those silly drawings and you have no clue of the implications of them later on. How curious you are at first dawn, when the mountain speaks to you for the first time. When you figure out which keys do what, and why. How satisfying it is to have you first piece of debris hit your mountain. How you get to feel when you figure out how to move that silly piece of crap. When you figure out what goes where and why. When you realize that the mountain is you-- You are the mountain, you get to shape the world around you... When you figure out how to play your favorite song on the keyboard. How insignificant you feel when you scroll all the way out, only to see a bloom of light and a dot. The sadness that fills you heart as your first item-- that you became so attached to-- slowly floats off into space, and you cannot do anything. When you have to draw a loved one. When you figure out that you are lost, and the simplist thing like this game can make you find yourself. When you achieve Zen and realize that.... Mountain is Love. Mountain is Life. That is what this game is about.
One of my favourite games. Not actually a game but a mountain flying in space simulator. Good graphic, sound and great idea. I usually leave it open on background for ambient sounds.
My friends are jelous that I'm such a high-level alpinist now.
Hello friends, Today we are releasing a huge update to Mountain. Every single system has been improved, as well as every shader, particle effect, texture and model. We made about 400 optimizations, updates and fixes - I have summarized the main ones below. This was in fact more work than making the original! Check out this comparison: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/6505275/b409e6dfd0439ddcc375c4a1c395263791341f82.jpg This process began a year ago, it started by putting in some minor fixes, then got deeper as we realized how much better it could be. We are just a lot more experienced than we were in 2014. This was motivated because I wanted to get it right, but mainly as a thank you to you guys, who have been so patient and positive over the years.
