Ferulorum Review — 4/10

Ferulorum brings some good ideas to the table, especially with its 10 unique characters spread across different classes like attack, blocking, magic, healing, and dodging. The game features three upgrade slots — stats, weapons, and armor/items — which offer a foundation for character growth. However, the selection of weapons and items is unfortunately very limited, which makes progression feel a bit flat over time.

The game's escalating level structure keeps things moving, with each section containing five levels, culminating in a final boss after most areas are completed. It's an enjoyable journey while it lasts, but the overall experience can be fully explored within about two hours, leaving players wanting a bit more depth and replay value.

Despite its shortcomings, Ferulorum is genuinely entertaining for a quick playthrough and shows clear potential. With some future updates to expand its item pool and deepen its systems, it could grow into something much stronger.

Ferulorum(V-1.1.14) Steam Release

Consider buying the game being a donation lol I've included an image of the shire in this upload hopefully to convey my feeling of reaching the end of a long, unexpected journey. I was expecting the making of this game to be much faster because from the beginning it was mostly meant to be a project to get better at c++ and get over the fear of putting something on steam, and while it was never going to be technically impressive or a smash hit I just couldn't bring myself to call it done while it was even rougher than it is now (god is it rough). But as you can tell by the title the time has come, I sat with my finger over the publish button on steam for a long time and to be honest I think I basically had stage fright, but it had to be done my old bad code and poor game design decisions have made it so I'm basically backed into a corner as to improve the game would take huge code changes and probably changing the game on a fundamental level. That is not to say I hate this project I am extremely proud of making it to the finish line and the blood and sweat I put into it but I know this isn't a game people will love its just missing that core thing that a good game needs and my ability to keep focusing on just the same thing is at its absolute limits. This week I made some good progress filled out the game with some more content and variety and fixed lots of small issues, specifically every item is now in the game and the hero's now have a lot more options. I also started tweaking some of the Ui to try and make it more readable. In the coming weeks the plan is to continue working on ferulorum and fixing the last of its small issues and also to transition gradually into my next project. I've actually already started what I'm calling Chamoisee-Canvasback (just a stand in code name) by setting up the project file and downloading the library's I'm planning on using SDL3. Im also going to wait about a month to do a post mortem but the long and short of it will be that feru...
