Bongo Cat is a minimalist idle companion that rewards you with collectible hats based on keystrokes and mouse clicks—roughly one item per thousand inputs. The game runs passively in your taskbar, letting you accumulate cosmetics through normal computer use without requiring active attention, though some players report getting surprisingly invested in the long-term grind. It's essentially a free decoration with optional Steam marketplace trading, best suited for those who enjoy idle mechanics with a whimsical aesthetic.

Good little idle game, just wish it was classed as a program rather than a game so it won't inflate my Steam review later in the year.

Cute desktop companion that rewards you an item every 30 minutes for the price of 1000 keystrokes/mouse clicks. The monetization for this game comes from the steam marketplace like some other free to play games but requires absolutely no participation. Just a cute little guy sat there giving the bottom of my monitor a little tap lol.

SIDE NOTE
I've seen a lot of people complain about this game being malware/uploading your keystrokes but after looking at everything through ILSpy, there really is just a counter for each keystroke and that's as far as it goes. There's nothing at all to worry about.

Bongo Cat is a harmless meme game until it isn’t. thinking I’d click a bit and move on, but somehow I blinked and suddenly my life goal became reaching 1,000,000 Bongo Cats. This achievement is not just a number, it’s a personal journey of growth, suffering, and acceptance. my keyboard accepted its fate, and I began to understand what true dedication looks like. There is no story, no combat, and no real challenge, yet the psychological grind is unmatched and the sense of accomplishment when the counter finally rolls over to one million is unreal. By the time I reached it, I wasn’t playing Bongo Cat anymore, I had become Bongo Cat, a higher being forged by endless bongos and questionable life choices. 10/10 experience, would sacrifice my sanity again.

Hello, sorry for the long silence. Here is a bit of an update. But i keep it short.First things first, because i know a lot of people are waiting: THERE WILL BE A LIMITED SUMMER EVENT SOON! Because of sickness this will take a bit longer. Patch notes:I now use another library that helps us/me to write WAAAAY less code for all the stuff. This took quite some time, so sorry for the long wait. But it should make everything a bit easier to implement in the futureImproved experience for the inventory, settings, multiplayer uiAdded lobby names and a lobby browserLinux update will be out soon (for X11). Wayland will take more time.We also have a indie collab that is running right now, grab some cool free skins! Much love

Bongo Cat x Indie Demos

I will launch a limited summer event soon (Flores was sick so you have to wait just a little bit longer)! We are still working on all the items, but it will be really cool! In the meantime I want to celebrate some more indies again! Here are some gems for you to try:STUNTBOOST is a fast paced fingerboarding game if you are looking for some arcady fun!Mothkeep is a cute moth documenting game if you are looking for some cozy nature adventureMoldrise is a crazy horror game ... honestly its tricky to describe. Just play it! (graphical warning!!)To grab their exclusive items you need to check their demos out for 5min, just take a look if you like it.(Sometimes it needs a bit until you get the items, close the other game (so Steam syncs your playtime) and wait a few minutes sometimes starting a Demo the second time can also help

Community Voting, Language Filter & Fixes

Community VotingI finally found a way to add community voting to the game! As some of you already saw was my first test.We will from now on add different polls regarding certain decisions directly in the game.I will respect the 27% and for them there won't be another community poll shown (until they enable it again in the settings). But overall i really appreciate all your feedback on this. And yes it was ugly :D it was me bashing the assets together and not let Lars (who did the UI) do another pass here haha.Additional Patch notes:Added a language filter!! (shame on all of the bad kitties out there, i thought i didn't have to do this)Various fixes regarding the AFK timer + chatYou can now disable the Discord integration (sorry :D i thought Discord respects your settings)Future Patch:Small info here: Iris and me, will try to get a small UI update out soon. We will try to make everything a bit more usable and not that cluttered. There was also an amazing idea in the Discord from "Manoni". They suggested a lovely idea how the new collection could look like!
