Bro, whether it's real life, anime, or video games, things always end badly when drugs are involved. You could go from having a harem of hot girls and wild sex to being alone and paranoid with nothing. The moral of the story is to quit drugs, leave busty girls in real life alone, and focus on busty girls in hentai.

✍️Overview
Liminal Border Part IV is the climactic conclusion to the four-part eroge visual novel series that delves into Japan's criminal underworld. The protagonist, Itsuki Ninomae, was once a nerdy high schooler but became a ruthless entrepreneur in the shadows of organized crime after inventing a digital drug that produces pleasure. The narrative progressively builds on themes of ambition, betrayal, and the corrosive cost of power. With over 6-10 hours of story content, the game has a single ending, meaning your choices in earlier games or this one don't influence the final outcome. It's fully voiced in Japanese with text support in English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. As with the other installments, the explicit sexual content is not present in the Steam version (patch), though it is not a significant cut due to the small amount of it.
📜Story
Part IV picks up directly after the twists of Part III, where Itsuki's ventures—Rave (a digital hypnotism-based enterprise) and NEST (his underworld hub)—have exploded into massive success, following the downfall of a key rival, Shinonome (
who was killed in revenge after murdering the protagonist first love Hina Yorozuya's in the previous game
). However, prosperity brings paranoia and peril. Itsuki and his childhood friend and business partner, Rin Akinashi, are laser-focused on avenging the death of Itsuki's father at the hands of Goro Teshigawara, the iron-fisted leader of the Umon-kai syndicate and father to one of Itsuki's uneasy allies. The story explores Itsuki's precarious position on the "liminal border" between justice and villainy, life and death. He risks everything, including his soul, for retribution. The narrative shines in its high-stakes drama. Decisions ranging from loyalty to betrayal ripple through the plot and shape outcomes in subtle yet impactful ways. Additionally, this installment has less "filler," focusing entirely on resolving unfinished plots and developing character evolution or devolution in satisfying ways. Itsuki remains a compelling anti-hero: a former otaku whose descent into crime feels tragically inevitable, driven by revenge but haunted by losses. Rin Akinashi steps into the spotlight more prominently here (since it's her turn to be the “main heroine.”); with her facade as a perfect schoolgirl hiding a cunning, money-obsessed schemer, adding layers of tension to her partnership with Itsuki. As I mentioned earlier, although the game offered choices in this and previous installments, they are irrelevant to the outcome, which leaves a bitter taste. That said, I think the ending is appropriate for a saga that touched on realistic and dark themes. It ends with a "status quo" or neutral ending. Without giving away any more spoilers, it's less hopeless than I expected, which is good.
🎮Gameplay
As a visual novel, like its predecessors, the game mechanics are simple: read the dialogues, make occasional decisions that influence relationships and plot nuances. There is nothing innovative or complex mechanics such as puzzles or combat.
🔞Sexual content

Note: You need to install the +18 patch from the publisher's page or you will not see any sexual content. *You can add me if you need help.
Like previous Liminal Border games, this game has little sexual content. It has only five still sex scenes, all of which are mosaic censored. This is quite understandable, as these scenes are only used to add more "realism" to the story, not to provide the player with fap material. The sex scenes in the game are practically vanilla, featuring blowjobs, handjobs, and vaginal sex. Overall, the quality of the sex scenes is poor compared to installments one and two. In this latest installment, the sexual content is clearly optional, with less variety in locations (it's always in bed or on the sofa). The art is generally good, though I am not a fan of the noticeable bodily deformities of the heroine. The only remarkable aspect of the sexual content is the Japanese voice acting, which is erotic, with moans and phrases that capture the sexual undertones perfectly. It's also important to note that this game only features one heroine in the sex scenes, resulting in the least variety of all the games. The game itself isn't bad. It has a well-crafted story, appealing characters, good artwork, professional Japanese voice acting, and a decent length for the price. However, the sexual content is quite poor, even for an eroge. Therefore, performing nighttime manual labor will be difficult with so little material. In short, whether you buy this game depends on what you're looking for. If you enjoy the narrative and want to know how the story ends, I recommend buying it because it has the best story in the series (if you aren't interested in romantic relationships). If you were looking for more sexual content than in previous installments, with the protagonist using drugs to get a harem of attractive women, then this game is not for you. Finally, I would like to share my thoughts on the series. Initially, I was attracted to the game because of the novelty of visual drugs with a sexual theme and an extremely attractive heroine with large breasts. Sadly, the series did not develop the way I would have liked (that the game would escalate in intensity, reaching more "strong" fetishes). Instead, it took a more realistic path. While interesting, this is not what I usually look for in eroge. I enjoyed reading the story, but I wouldn't play it again because it's quite heavy. I would only recommend it to true visual novel lovers, not hentai game fans. About This Game
The conclusion of the Liminal Border visual novel series. After the countless twists and turns of Part III, Itsuki's business is now a massive success, but all he can see is the need for revenge. Standing on the border between justice and evil, which way will Itsuki fall?
What players are saying
Ehmmmmmmmmm yeah, it has a good ending, not really good, but a realistic one Unfortunately, it also has the worst R18 scenes, which is really disappointing 6/10
Talk about a misleading description. The page unfortunately makes Criminal Border seem like a nukige, when it's in fact one of the best stories focused on underworld crime and its consequences. Kazuki Fumi took some dares when he wrote 9-nine, but the guy has balls of steel. Out of close to 100 visual novels I've read at the time of this review, which one takes the most gambles? It's Criminal Border, no two ways about it. Truly, the most insane things that a writer could dare to do was done in this series. Pure shock, thrill, and fantastic writing make Criminal Border one of the best things I've experienced. It's chillingly smart. What a scenario, to have the characters throw themselves deep into the underworld where escape doesn't come easy. It's not something you would expect from Purple software, given how wildly different it is from their other works, but that's another special thing about them. All of their games seem to have a message, either subtle or one like a bright, summer blue. There is no release from crime, and it's a self-serving beast that consumes itself, like the characters in this story. The descent into depravity is fully displayed here, and Criminal Border wouldn't work as an all ages game. What I liked about the series is nothing felt forced; There was no need to make all the H scenes consensual or moral, it just flows so well. Some of the best character development I've seen takes place in this game, believe it or not. Witnessing a cowardly, spineless wimp become one of the most badass guys in eroge through sheer will was so satisfying. All wonderfully developed, the heroines are lovely and well-executed. I've seen plenty complaints about the art in this series, and I feel as if it's the main reason it doesn't have more readers. Sure, it's different than COQ (my goat) but Same Manma is a very skilled eromanga artist who gives her girls some thickness. It's unique, and fits the game very well. The rest of the assets and the great story is what you can expect from Purple software. Criminal Border is a thrilling read, and I would recommend it to anyone.
