This is an odd one. I think this idle shooter is better than I give it credit, but I also think the game let itself down in a few ways.
Check the sales vid & it looks really cool. "There are lots of fun build combinations to discover." I bet there are. The three main reasons why I didn't have that experience:
- Some of the text is cut off on the upgrades and weapon mods; some elements are poorly explained.
- The weapon mods, especially the ones that drastically alter or combine effects, are very rare random drops that don't show up for a while.
- The UI for managing weapon mods is not friendly. There's decent sorting options, you can lock items, you can sell (and auto sell) things at will. But you can see only three mods at a time! Taking the time to review and compare a stack of 150 items is an absolute slog.
It was my failure to spend time experimenting with the things I was getting to find the craziness within. I equipped the first major weapon mod I found, stacked on as much damage as possible, and got practically all the achievements after two prestiges. I neither wanted to experiment with stuff that wasn't well defined, nor did I want to slowly sift through the eventual pile of unmanageable and similar weapon mods that built up during idle sessions.
But I don't want to be harsh. It's a decent auto shmup at its core, and the only frustration I ever experienced was based on the UI. I'd bet the game's much cooler if you have more impetus than me to play around with options. If you like little niche idlers, I don't think you can go wrong for the price.
