As Charon, ferry souls across five rivers while collecting coins from the dead to pay your debt to Hades. This short incremental builds toward a designed endpoint rather than endless growth, combining the genre's core loop of accumulation and progression with actual narrative closure. It appeals to players seeking meaningful incremental games that end rather than fade.

Idle & Incremental Lovers recommends Toll: The Ferryman's Ledger.
Writing and atmosphere are great. Interactive conversations with daemons are thoughtful, and words from the deads are kinda funny. Incremental part is OK but not great, and prestige needs a rework.
+ Where the game really shines is the writing, which comes up often and in short snippets. Thanks to this, the game never gets boring and the atmosphere really builds up.
+ Using dialog options to better your coin multiplier depending on your answers is a really great and creative idea, and keeps you glued to the story and atmosphere.
+ The words from the author after the credits are just GOLD. Really glad I finished the game and saw this.
+ For this price, it's a steal!
- Conversation with spirits and words from the dead may overlap when popping, so you might miss some dialog parts.
- Prestige really needs clarification and a buff. I regret prestiging, would have finished the game earlier without it. First, you don't know that the prize of prestige upgrades will be exponential, so it messes with your calculation. Second, your upgrades are not effective immediately but only after you're able to pay the tribute again, so you start slow again without upgrades for a few boring minutes. Third, it's way quicker to finish the game without prestiging, so the mechanic would really benefit from a buff.
*Don't challenge Death to a pillow fight, unless you're prepared for the Reaper cushions.*

TOLL 1.7 — First Steps

Update 1.7 New First Steps A chain of five one-time hints for the first minutes: call a soul aboard, cast off, row, set your toll, buy your first upgrade Each one stands beside the thing it speaks about, and goes when you do it or when you click it away Learned once and for good: tribute, a New Journey and a new cycle do not teach it to you again The Ledger Counts the Rivers Records now shows how many times you answered the rivers Bugfixes Fixed the issue where the boat would come apart while crossing, the hull showing as two halves at different heights. It was being tilted on every stroke, and turning pixel art by a degree cuts straight planking into steps; now the hull lurches by whole pixels instead Fixed the issue where the tiered achievements for answering the rivers counted only the current session, putting a hundred answers out of reach

TOLL 1.6 — The Rivers Run

Update 1.6 New The Water Moves All five rivers run now, each with its own temper: the Styx easy, the Acheron heavy, the Lethe almost still, the Phlegethon boiling, the Cocytus barely crawling rises into the bone frame as she speaks, breathes while she talks, and withdraws from it before the plate goes The dead cross from the pier to their seat when you call them, and lift off the deck when the boat lands A Cleaner Screen While anyone is talking to you the counters and the toll lever step back, the dark behind the panel deepens, and sparks, coins and flying numbers no longer land on the words One state, one signal: the river you are on is the lit tile, the river you have not reached is the shadowed one with the lock Gold means obols and nothing else; the hull bar runs green -> amber -> fire Upgrade prices stand in a column of their own, every tile is the same height, and the description comes up from the tile instead of a small badge beside it Faces, locks and omen badges are drawn at their own size instead of being scaled to a fraction Bugfixes Fixed the issue where a machine that had not received your cloud save would start a new game and upload it over your run A cloud copy that cannot be read now locks uploading for the session, and a run behind the cloud is never sent up Fixed the issue where two computers were judged by their clocks; inside one run the crossings decide The last five local saves are kept beside the current one, each with the time it was replaced Fixed the issue where the Hall of Hades would clip at the top and the bottom Fixed the issue where card captions and the percentage beside a lock were drawn half as bright as intended Fixed the issue where the row of actions kept the width of the buttons it was hiding Fixed multiple text-fitting issues in long translations

TOLL 1.5 — The Ledger Keeps Records

Update 1.5 New The Records Page The left page of the Ledger turns now: as before, and beside it Twelve rows: fastest ransom, best crossing in souls and in obols, cycles completed, tributes paid, curses suffered, vows kept, spills gathered, faces remembered, bargains struck, promises made, truths told Most of it the game had been counting all along with nowhere to show it; the rest starts at nothing from this patch on Balance Adjustments Relics of Hades a stroke every 3.0s -> 1.2s at the first level, 1.0s -> 0.4s at the last the whole relic 29 -> 15 shadows (6/9/14 -> 3/5/7) It still cannot outrow living hands: 0.4s against your 0.3s, and the same limit per crossing holds for both Death's Spill the dead pay x2.0 -> x1.6 3 minutes -> 100 seconds Gathering the coins still earns back the thirty seconds it costs Bugfixes Fixed the issue where the Ledger would clip at the top and the bottom as its pages grew Fixed the issue where standing with the fifth river could fall off the bottom of the page in German
