I think the game needs work on balance. It's pretty slow, and requires constant attention. You can idle, but only if you slow your progress to a trickle. The ability to auto-sell energy scales in cost so poorly that it may as well not exist. You'll be manually selling energy. You can increase your capacity eventually, but I found myself just unwilling to grind to the point that I could idle and at the same time not enjoying the grind enough to want to sell energy manually non-stop. I'll check it out again down the road and see if it improves, because it has potential for sure.

Also, some of the shop items weren't clear in what they actually do. I found some items I just didn't know if they'd benefit me or not.

As someone who plays a lot of idle/incremental games Oraxum Trials is an excellent addition to the genre. It has a very clever concept that I've only ever seen once before. You have to design a hexagonal board full of crystals that generate energy (your currency) and you have to place sigils to enhance crystals production as well as absorb corruption they produce. There is constantly tension between producing enough energy and finding ways to sell that energy quickly enough while placing enough dispel sigils to absorb corruption produced by crystals. There is also dozens of upgrades available once you prestige which extends the core gameplay considerably.

However, I was almost going to not recommend the game because it is still rough around the edges. For example, the game has a very hardcore fail state that can destroy all of your placed crystals/sigils. I have a feeling that the developer is quite receptive to feedback and so I'll keep it recommended for now and update later if for some reason they fail to address the remaining major issues.

A neat base for a idle game, but not thoroughly developed yet
no mid-game nor end-game, merely an early-game, just prove of concept for now
you pretty much run out of new stuff to do 2-3 hours in!

will this walk the path of cookie clicker
and just be super focused on the one single BIG number?
or maybe more like ngu
and have multiple system working intertwine, all serving the common goal?

Only time can tell

Version 0.12 (Final)

Hey everyone, it's been a long time! I recently bought myself a Steam Deck and was feeling inspired so decided to do one final update on Oraxum Trials, which adds controller support and fixes a couple things that were preventing the game from running on Steam Deck. This will be the last update to Oraxum Trials (barring any critical bug fixes) so if you're reading this, thank you for playing! I'm planning on releasing a new game this year, so join the Discord server and be the first to hear updates about that: https://discord.gg/pf22PYr Added Controller support (joystick = mouse, A button = left click, B button = right click, see new help article for complete list of bindings) Support for SteamOS (using Proton) and Steam Deck Endgame screen that pops up when you buy the final Oraxum Size talent level Changed Update engine to Unity 6 Fixed Removed non-functional "Spend Points" button on Acclimations panel

Winding Down Development on Oraxum Trials

Hey players, I’m coming up on three years in my journey of making Oraxum Trials. I’ve been doing gamedev as a hobby for around a decade now but this was my first “real” game that I actually released and followed though all the way. In developing this game I’ve learned so much and grown as a game designer and programmer, but have also made every mistake possible regarding scope creep, marketing, balance, outsourcing, releasing game-breaking production bugs, etc, and at this point the code is kind of a mess of technical debt and bad architecture decisions I made 2 years ago. Since starting Oraxum Trials I’ve had a baby, bought a house, changed jobs, survived a global pandemic (so far), and have come to a place where it’s time for me to refocus my priorities. The mental load of working in software engineering during the day and maintaining a game in the evenings takes its toll and I end up taking weeks off of the game to avoid burnout. I’m not quitting completely and will continue to release bug/balance updates as necessary, but am going to take a long break before starting on my next project. I’ve been toying with getting back into music production or writing but I’m not totally sure what’s next. Thanks to everyone who has spent their time playing Oraxum Trials, and I hope to see you again in the future. Prajna
