World of Talesworth packages familiar RPG mechanics—monster slaying, loot gathering, leveling—into an idle simulation, though players report the early game demands significant active management before automation becomes available. Expect a semi-idle experience best suited for those willing to grind for weeks to unlock passive features, with the caveat that later-game monetization elements aren't clearly advertised upfront. Long-time fans appreciate it as a background game for occasional attention, but newcomers expecting a hands-off idle title may find the early friction frustrating.

While this is cute and entertaining at first, this is not, as advertised, an Idle game. This game requires far, far too much management. While some of this management is automated *eventually*, the amount of grind to purchase those automations is way out of scope (weeks at minimum). This is a Grinding Numbers Game, not an Idle Game.
Idle Games: - can run without your input - will keep running when the game is closed (or fake calculate your gains) - constantly gains resources, even if inefficiently
Talesworth: - requires you to clear your vendor bags constantly - requires you to change level zones frequently - must be open in order to continue gaining resources - will actually *stop* playing if you give it no input for long enough, stopping all resource gains
I cannot state this enough. If you want a game for idling, this is not it.
I actually really liked this game until I hit level 25 and unlocked an huge intrusive premium sub(?) currency overlay which IS NOT shown whatsoever in the trailer or any of the other media.
Previews are all from outdated versions of the game.
Pretty disappointed.
// I want to make it perfectly clear that the reason for this negative review has nothing to do with any form of currency this game has. It's the fact that the "real player" area is completely cherry picked out of all store page media and is forced upon the player after playing for 3 hours. That really did feel like a "aha" moment.
Let me reiterate that this is not regarding tacos- or that the "energy" based systems exist. This is obviously very standard for the genre. I would not even mind having to pay gold to restore food or sleep levels.
I've played this game since it was released back on Kongregate many years ago. It's one of my favorite idle games. That said, calling it idle is a little wrong, since it'll be a long, long while until you can fully idle without losing anything. It's a semi-active idle game. I like to keep it open on my other monitor and check it during down times on other games, such as loading screens.
The game starts out simple, but quickly adds many creative layers. More than the usual click button to reset with bonuses. Many aspects of the game are hidden behind creative puzzles. There is a premium currency (tacos) but you get more than enough through semi-active play to buy everything in the taco shop and then some. There are some perks than you can only buy with money, but most of them are a couple bucks and they're purely convenience oriented.
I also happen to know that the dev is a very nice guy and I'm happy to support him with my spare cash.
Either way, I'm happy that this game finally made it to steam and I hope it does well enough to maybe get some new content. Maybe? ;)
