SPACE / MECH / PILOT is a free idle game centered on an emotionally resonant relationship with Kato, a character the story itself acknowledges is separate from you across a mysterious connection. Beyond typical idle progression, it weaves in narrative beats, meta-commentary on the player-game boundary, and callbacks to the developer's earlier work—unusual depth for the genre. Players drawn to incremental games with genuine character development and an actual ending will find something distinctly heartfelt here.
About this game
The S/M/P Initiative is not responsible for any odd abnormalities while playing. Connections to other universes are not monitored or controlled by the video game program. Keep away from children under the age of 6. Fun to play but not to eat.
What players are saying
S/M/P is a perfect idle game- not too grindy, a good amount of itemization, a character I will fight to the death for. You know, the important things.
Compared to most idle games, there is an actual story. Throughout the adventure you get in contact with Kato who is eager to be friends with you. There is a meta element where the story recognizes that you are playing a game and Kato tries to figure out how the connection between the both of you is possible. Kato will struggle at some points where you will need to cheer him up, but despite being successful, only a sad ending awaits this story .
The game starts with manual shooting, but you can quickly automatize the process to have it idle. The weapons can be upgraded infinitely and the newer weapons are worth investing in as they are quite stronger than the weapons that are first available. The shop points are best spent at progressing the story because it upgrades your social rank that gives your ship a big power boost. Talking to Kato gives you hints for what upgrades you need to focus on and it's the only way to progress the story. After ending the story, you can choose to continue idling or rewind that gives an XP multiplier bonus. The story is re-experienced on each rewind and you can see the different choices that are about getting to know Kato, not changing the story.
I can recommend this game if you want to experience a bittersweet story with a cute character and an idle game that you can actually finish in your lifetime. As this is an idle game, there wasn't much I could do, but let the program idle from hour 3 to 7, from 7 to 15 where I finished the story and the rest of my game time was spent using three rewinds to reach level 5000. The only bug I experienced is that there is an anti-cheat system to keep the leaderboards safe, but even while I was playing legit, the game thought my save file was cheated and my stats weren't being submitted anymore.
For achievement hunters:
Most of them are storyline with a missable when you upgrade S.Rank from 3 to 4, you have to ask Kato about the music option and grinding to level 5000. I don't know if it's the most optimal way, but I got to level 5000 by rewinding at level 850, 2000 and 3700.
SPACE / MECH / PILOT feels unique, and yet somewhat homely in a way I can't quite put into words.
It's completely freeware, so go ahead and try it out!
