Hell Grocery puts you in charge of an underworld grocery store, hiring and training employees while gradually expanding and decorating your shop. The core loop relies on idle mechanics—accumulating revenue passively and upgrading staff to unlock new inventory and store improvements. It's a pleasant pixel-art business sim with a quirky hellish theme, though players report the English localization needs work and the early grind feels slow.

This is a Neutral Review.

The theme is fun & I enjoy the music/simulation games like this. However I find it very slow to start up & a lack of English in the game. While there is English translation on the main menu to a degree & on basic controls upon startup there are none in the store pages to explain what things are aside from saying if something is a wall decoration. This makes things a bit confusing even with the pictures as you don't fully know what things are. That said. I did create an English achievement guide for anyone who still wants to try this game out. (as the achievements are only in Chinese).

I may make another guide down the line as to what store items are/what they do to help more English speakers who want to try this game out. Despite all this I am still enjoying the game play.. I fully understand this game is made by a Chinese developer; however I think there needs to be more translation in the game to be able to claim this game has English interface/subtitles because I am still needing to use a translator/play around on the game to figure out parts that are left fully in Chinese.

It's a very cute game but it's incredibly rough around the edges!

Cons:

The English translation is very poor and will be even missing spaces at times.

You can't rotate the furniture that is mildly infuriating

Switches between background music which can get annoying

Gets super repetitive really quick

Pros:

The pixel art is superb cute

The background music is nice, just wish I could either keep only one or switch between them instead of having them change the whole time

The upside to the repetitiveness is if you leave your characters at the cash register you can just keep upgrading your workers and play it instead like an idle game

The price is low hence the expectations are also lower with it

I would consider this more of an idle clicker than anything else. The translations could use some work. Some are even missing, like the achievements I don't understand what they are as they are in another language. When you unlock more workers and items to sell it becomes a sit back and let the game run itself until you get enough money to upgrade your workers or expand your store. I would enjoy this way more if it wasn't so much of a game that runs its self after upgrades there is nothing for me to do as player, just stand by the resister and let the money flow in. I would like to be able to do more its a neat idea for a game but it could use a bit of work I was grinding for achievements but lost interest when I have so many workers that there really is nothing left to do except upgrade my workers carry complicity/ speed and expand the store. I think if this game got some TLC I could give it a better rating.
My rating: 4/10 Game plays itself not much of a game after upgrades even for the price its not worth it game becomes repetitive and offers nothing new to keep this player engaged.
