Koltera is an idle creature-collector where you assign creatures to mine ores, then use those materials to augment and breed them while exploring. The feedback suggests a thin progression loop that demands minimal active play—potentially rewarding for extremely patient players willing to idle for hundreds of hours, though others find the limited ore variety and mechanical depth underwhelming even by idle standards.

Straight up boring even for a idle game standards.
At first it looks like a mixture of Melvor and Pokemon, but the problem is that you can only mine and "augument" creatures with mined ores, there's 15 ores in total.
Gameplay loop is basically reduced to few clicks per hour as you just set up your creature to mine, wait till you get enough ores to either sell and get like 2% faster stamina regen or augument/mutate your creature so you can HOPE (literally hope) for some good stat RNG.
At the current state of the game I just cannot recommend it, close to zero gameplay, just keep the app open as there's no offline progress (could be a bug). If you really want to test the game, play the Demo as it allows you to reach level 25 and that's like 5 hours of doing nothing for free.

@edit after dev response.
Sure there are other things to do.
Training requires money to heal, there's no health regen - only way to get money it is mining.
Breeding requires money - again mining
and so on.
Everything leads to either money or resources we mine.
the genetics thingy didn't really worked out for me, as RNG gods just hated my rolls i guess, Otto and Arbowl (or something) just couldn't get any good stat.
Also, last year alone i spent easily over 1000h playing different Idlers only on steam, not counting browser games, i kinda know what a idle game is and what to expect.

Honestly if there would be a "neutral" option in reviews i would use it. Game is not bad, it's just boring for me and therefore i cannot recommend it at this stage of development.

Keep doing what you are doing as I do like the concept itself and will be back some day in the future to hopefully change my review.

After 500+ hours I can say I have finally 100% the game, every single fable with max vibrancy and stats. Its sad to close the game after constantly having it idling in the background for months, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
I've grown attached to all of the designs in the game, and thoroughly enjoyed each and every mechanic the game had to offer, even if I only figured out how to use them most efficiently late end game.
It's a charming idle game that I'd definitely recommend if you're a fan of collecting games, it doesn't require you're full attention too often so it's not a tedious game to finish, although if you plan to 100% it like me it is time consuming.
I could definitely do it faster in hindsight with my understanding of the games mechanics now, but figuring things out as I went along was apart of the charm.
Thanks for a great game, it'll always have a strong place in my heart, looking forward to any future instalments of the game! <3

Bought game, dev removed things I enjoyed most less than a week after. Then informed us he was no longer going to work on the game shortly after that. And now announced game will be free and no regards to people who paid. Yikes. Zero trust in this developer caring about his paying customers.

Wishlist Koltera 2 today! :)

As I am nearing close to completion on Koltera 2 and heading into playtests in December, I invite anyone interested to come wishlist it! It means the world to me and I can't wait to get players playing on a game that takes ideas from Koltera 1 and creates new twists and gameplay. It's definitely a different type of game, but pulls a lot of ideas from the initial game. But I am very happy with how it's turning out so far.The plan is to hopefully release in January if things all go well in playtests. Thank you all for your support!~ Braymen

Koltera Patch v7.0

- Buffed Mining, Training, Explores Staffs from 200% max -> 400% max - Nerfed Cost to Extend Trainer Spell from 5 -> 2 mana potions - Nerfed Cost to Refresh Trader from 10 -> 5 mana potions - Changed Achievement 'Nothing Left' to "Upgraded", and updated the achievement text to "Have over 75+ Legacy Upgrades"

Koltera Patch v6.0

- Changed 'Explorers' upgrade so that it converts to more 'Gathering' slots once locations are explored, for continued value into the upgrade - Fixed gold border not showing for normal creature when you had perfect genetics - Added a collection log tracker for genetic strength, so you can now release creatures and keep the gold border if you had the perfect genetic strength for the augment/normal creature. This system retroactively went through existing creatures and added them to the tracker - Corrected text from the release creature confirmation that wasn't true - Changed Staff of Breeding so that it approaches 100% cheaper, but never can reach it. Previously if you got past a level, it would pay you to breed. - Changed Staffs to follow the same logic as breeding, but they approach 200% as their max, but can never reach it. It's diminished returns as you level it up. - Added a tooltip to the trader screen on the "You get" creature so you can tell what augment it is. - Changed Steam cloud file count from 50 -> 1000. This just allows more files to be saved in it, especially since backups alone per slot is around 50 each. This update does nerf the Magic Staffs a bit, but I will be keeping watch on it and make further adjustments as needed. It's a system I'd like to redo completely at some point. These nerfs will help control the max power and fix the bug with the staff of breeding. If you have any feedback on these nerfs, I'd love to hear about it. I think the biggest place adjustments can happen would be in the upgrade prices. On the brightside, explorers are no longer useless once you explore each location. Each explorer upgrade will be converted into gatherers!
