A Poor Imitation of Dungeon Squad – Frustrating AI and Broken Combat System

Final Score: 3/10 🚫

I had high expectations for Ancient Cultivatrix , given its mix of Roguelite and tower defense elements, but it turned out to be a cheap and poorly executed imitation of Dungeon Squad. The game is plagued by horrendous AI, an unreliable combat system, and a lack of meaningful strategy, making the entire experience frustrating rather than engaging.

Major Issues That Ruin the Experience

Terrible Auto-Attack AI and Embarrassingly Low Hit Rate

The biggest issue with this game is its completely broken auto-attack system. The AI always prioritizes the frontmost enemy, no matter the circumstances. This alone wouldn’t be a dealbreaker, but the real problem arises when enemies reach the bottom row—the AI can never accurately aim at them, resulting in a ridiculous number of wasted attacks. This means that even if you make the best tactical choices, your attacks often just miss for no reason, making the entire combat system feel clumsy, unreliable, and frustrating.

Lack of Innovation – A Weak Copy of Dungeon Squad

At its core, Ancient Cultivatrix attempts to copy Dungeon Squad but fails in execution. It doesn’t introduce any new mechanics or meaningful improvements. Instead, it just feels like a downgraded version of a better game. The battles lack the depth and excitement of its inspiration, making encounters feel tedious and frustrating rather than rewarding.

Repetitive and Unsatisfying Progression

While the game promises strategic skill combinations and character building, in reality, the choices feel repetitive and shallow. Character upgrades barely impact gameplay, and despite facing a variety of enemies, combat encounters start feeling the same after just a short time. Instead of an engaging Roguelite experience, progression feels more like a dull grind.

Final Verdict – Not Worth Your Time

If you’re looking for a game similar to Dungeon Squad, do yourself a favor and play the original instead. Ancient Cultivatrix fails to deliver any meaningful improvements and instead introduces a frustrating combat system that actively works against the player. With broken AI, a terrible hit rate, and uninspired gameplay, this game is simply not worth your time or money. Unless the developers overhaul its core mechanics, I cannot recommend it at all.

Final Score: 3/10 🚫

This is by all means NOT a FULLY RELEASED version. Instructions are unclear, confusing, not beginner-friendly. Tonnes of incomplete work. Beta version at best and it shouldn't be called a official version (blatant lies) Moreover, there is no telling if the developers are going to continue improving and such practice is so despicable and disappointing.

I probably wouldn't recommend this with the current amount of content it has. The game is pretty basic, similar to a lot of tower defense rogue-likes you might find on mobile except way more clunky and poorly translated. The different systems such as crafting with the furnace are half-thought out and don't really add anything to the overall game - the bargaining mini-game should just be a one-time bonus across all 5 sales for the period. The actual gameplay is pretty boring and repetitive without a lot of new gameplay once you've got through some of the weapon systems. For the main part the weapons are the same across all the characters with only a change in elements and such.
