Note: This shovelware interferes with the normal operation of the Windows taskbar and may render your Windows desktop unusable until you close the app. My Taskbar Farm isn't really a proper game, it's just a lazy 2D browser/Flash-tier "number incrementer" game where the object of the game is to increase the in-game currency by clicking, and sometimes buying things that increase the rate at which your currency/score goes up. It's an incredibly shallow game loop, to the point you might as well just run a program that does "i=i+1; print i" and watch the numbers go up automatically, and just watch it. You'd get the exact same outcome. If this sounds completely mindless, you're not wrong. This one is from the asset flip scammers and review manipulators at Rising Moon Games, famous for using fake reviews to try to get YOUR money for other people's game assets. This time they are pushing an incredibly lame ripoff of Rusty's Retirement, a taskbar toy that gives you a little clicker farm with pixelcrap animals on it. Given the developer prior history of stealing the work of others for profit, it's likely this is a similar scam. It also doesn't work; they screwed up how the app sits over the taskbar and prevents many Windows UI elements from working properly. Rising Moon Games have a known history of trying to scam people into paying them money for someone else's work, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. One example of Rising Moon Games doing this is HEN, CHICKS AND CATS, which is really the "Cube World" asset, written by the actual developers, Polysquid. Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 9 players, and the worst part is these weren't genuine players, these were the Russian fake review accounts that the developer paid to make the fake reviews. Since the fake reviews are all done, now the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 130,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This game features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian, broken English or ChatGPT AI slop, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Due to the 2024 FTC ruling (16 CFR Part 465), these fake reviews are a violation of US Federal Law.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 130,000+ games on Steam? My Taskbar Farm has the gamer gouging price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. For comparison, the $4 asking price for this game could get you games like "Warhammer: Vermintide 2", "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" or "The Forest". No pixelcrap is worth $4. If developers want to get paid the same kind of money as real game developers who know how to do graphics properly, they need to learn how to do graphics properly.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
What players are saying
tl;dr: If you don't care about achievements, enjoy! If you do, avoid for now. Man, I really can't recommend this one in good conscience with how it feels. The other reviews were left way sooner into playing and don't seem to encounter the same frustration I am. I'm sorry to the dev, this is cute and I'm sure it took a lot of work, but it just hasn't been tested enough and feels slapped together. The achievements are just plain unfair with the price scaling for animals. The game is lacking VERY needed upgrades (like upgrading barns/coops for more storage) and most of it feels like a chore if you want the achievements. I'll leave a longer list of comments in the Discussions section if you're interested. That said, it doesn't appear the dev is checking that, either. :,3 It's a shame, this game is darn cute and a few improvements would make it really comfy and nice.
Edit: WARNING: This is a 'Dump and Go' developer. As of February 2026, this game hasn't been updated since its May 2025 launch. The developer (Rising Moon Games) has even scrubbed this game from their official website to hide it, while they push their next release, Sokocat: Castaway (Feb 25, 2026). They use the 'Idle' mechanics to inflate your playtime so you can't get a refund before you realize the game is broken. DO NOT BUY. TL;DR Pros: Cute concept and idea for a taskbar farm game. Cons: Automation bots sell everything instead of feeding factories, lab feels pointless once fully upgraded and unclear if perks persist after deleting it, punishing animal pricing, pigs overwhelm the map, almost no UI/system options, and the overall experience feels half-finished. Overall: Tries to be a cozy idle farm, but ends up feeling chaotic and stressful instead. It works just enough to pull you in, then falls apart. -------------------------------------------------------------- I went into My Taskbar Farm looking for a chill, cozy idle game, but it ended up feeling more stressful than relaxing. The automation robots are the biggest issue. The ground bots keep selling everything instead of taking items to the correct buildings. They constantly grab eggs and milk to sell instead of dropping them at the mayonnaise factory or cheese press, which completely defeats the purpose of setting up production lines and “automating” anything. The lab building is another source of frustration. I upgraded everything in the lab very quickly, and once it was fully upgraded it just sat there taking up space. I wasn’t sure whether the perks would remain if I deleted it to make room, and after removing the lab I couldn’t buy it again to test anything, which makes the whole system feel unfinished and confusing long term. Animal pricing ramps up in a way that feels punishing instead of rewarding. Every new animal costs dramatically more than the last, so expanding your farm becomes frustrating rather than satisfying. There’s a barn for large animals like sheep, alpacas, and cows, but nothing to contain pigs, so if you aim for achievements and end up with 50+ pigs, they’re just everywhere and the farm becomes a cluttered mess. On the technical/UI side, it’s surprisingly rigid for a “taskbar” game. You can’t move the game window, adjust UI size, or change basic system settings like FPS. The options menu is extremely barebones: just a simple video toggle (vsync or always on top), language selection, and music/sound sliders. For a game that’s supposed to sit on your screen while you do other things, the lack of control is really noticeable. I’ve been burned out and specifically looking for simple idle/clicker/cozy games where I can mostly relax and check in occasionally. Instead, I’d honestly rather micromanage inventory in something like Cyberpunk, where the management at least has meaningful impact, than fight with this game’s automation and UI constraints. After reading other negative reviews mentioning suspiciously glowing ratings, I can understand why some players feel that way. The game works just enough to pull you in with its premise, but the more you play, the more it ended up feeling like a half-finished project to me. I picked it up on sale for under a dollar, and even at that price it doesn’t feel worth it. If you’re looking for a genuinely chill, mostly passive farm/idle experience, this probably isn’t it.
