Chromapix is a really cool logic puzzle game made by the talented husband and wife team at Catnip Studio (they're games are all super creative!). In their latest game, they invite players to dive into a world of colors and patterns. The gameplay is a color version of the classic Shikaku or Rectangles puzzle, it adds a fresh twist to the genre, offering a casual gaming experience for players of all skill levels. The goal is to divide the grid into rectangular and squares, so each section holds the amount allocated by that number. This area must accurately represent the the rectangle or square it fills. To do this, you just click and drag to form rectangles and squares inside the grid (while keeping the area rules in mind). However, it’s important to pay attention to the size of each section, because that will determine if you’ve solved the puzzle correctly. Although it might seem easy at first, it can get tricky as you progress. There are many different colors, and when it's finished, you'll be rewarded with a picture! The game's single graphic resolution makes sure that the visuals are consistent and the resizable window mode lets players adjust their view (which is great!). Because it's a casual game, it’s accessible to a wide audience, providing a fun challenge without feeling overwhelming. One cool feature is the ability to manually undo any part of the puzzle; this allows players to try out different strategies and fix mistakes without any penalties. The lack of a timer promotes a relaxed vibe, encouraging players to take their time and fully enjoy the game's charming visuals and soothing music. For those who love puzzles, it’s a delightful experience! Chromapix has an auto-zoom function (which helps players focus on the puzzle) while hints are available to lend a helping hand when players need it. There are over 100 layouts and the ability to generate a completely new puzzle every time you restart a level. This makes Chromapix endlessly replayable for those who want to revisit their favorites or challenge themselves with different configurations. A tutorial is available so newcomers can quickly grasp the game's mechanics and objectives. The game is presented in both English and Simplified Chinese. The settings have sound and music sliders to create a personalized audio experience. It also offers 9 achievements, providing an extra layer of challenge and motivating players to explore every detail of this fun puzzle adventure. In conclusion, this is a charming and beautiful logic puzzle game. It invites players to lose themselves in a world filled with vibrant colors and patterns. With its casual gameplay, unique features and replayable levels, it creates a memorable experience for puzzle lovers and casual gamers alike. What players are saying
While this game is cute, fun and sometimes tedious, the achievements have been broken for over a year. There are posts in discussions informing the devs about this issue and it has yet to be fixed. If getting achievements for your work, time and effort are important to you, DON'T BUY THIS GAME. Saying it has achievements one can acquire is a joke. It's a shame because it's not a bad game. But the achievements are broken and the devs aren't fixing the problem. If they fix it, I'll update this review. Hopefully that will happen soon.
On cnpuzzle website, it's referred to as "shikaku", a paper-and-pencil logic puzzle where a large grid is divided into many smaller blocks, with relatively low difficulty. As mentioned in a previous Chinese user's comment, there's an problem with achievements — I only get 4/9 achievements after completing the game, meaning 5 out of 9 achievements remain inaccessible. As a result, I had to resort to using Steam++ to unlock them. The con is that there's a substantial amount of puzzles, allowing for 10-15 hours of gameplay, excluding about me 5 hours spent sleeping
