My only real issue with this game is that I wish it was just a bit more than it is currently in terms of a few things.
1. Visuals. I like the UI and ship and enemy designs, but for something that is meant to evoke asteroids to not having the satisfying movement particle effects that game had makes it feel kinda like you're floating around rather than flying around in space. It almost feels like the hacking minigame in Nier Automata if you've played that.
2. Combat scaling. My other nitpick that I would love to see is just everything being more. More enemies, more screenspace, more particle effects to make those things feel impactful but more importantly, a higher floor to your ship. I just got off playing some Ikaruga for the first time which is this bonkers bullet hell game and going from that to playing this, while no fault of Astro Nova, feels like going from Formula 1 to drag racing some butthead in a Nissan at a stoplight. If the difficulty went up a bit more and you started much more capable I feel like the roguelike part of the game would feel better. The permanent progression aspect of the game means that eventually you'll reach the crazy levels that are super fun but until then you're stuck in a dingus ass ship that feels just a bit too underpowered for a bit too long.
This is a neat game for 3 bucks, my "complaints" are literally just nitpicks, and I think this is definitely worth a try if it looks fun to you. Thanks for the free copy from the dev(s?).
