I like the premise, but for 1.0 release, this is quite disappointing mostly because of these three things:

- Graphical / Sound settings are not properly saved
- Game gets (graphically) stuck at dawn every once in a while and requires you to reload
- Night is too long and too dark to properly see what you are doing

This is something I would be able to understand for an Early Access title, but for a full release with 1.0, these things are a clear oversight. Please fix these bugs and until they are fixed, I wouldn't recommend buying this right now.

It's an interesting little game but there are some quite serious flaws here.

- Sometimes you just can't click on things. Sometimes you click on something and nothing happens. You have to exit back to the menu and then go back in.

- The tutorial is quite limited and gives you all the information before you can try making any of it actually work. I restarted after a bit of confused faffing about.

- The buttons and controls are quite clunky. The buttons seem to divide up the functions in ways that aren't very helpful and you can spend quite a lot of time clicking things (with the wrong button pressed) without realising why nothing is happening.

- Sometimes phantom green ghost structures appear on your map or on locks sections of it for no reason. Sometimes you can't set workers to do any work. Sometimes things are just a bit broken.

I'm going to keep playing, but so far there doesn't seem to be much challenge in the gameplay to balance out the challenge in getting the controls working. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether your people are happy or not, and I don't find myself really caring whether or not they are. There's no real satisfaction in building and growing your town.

I enjoyed my ~2 hours with this game, and the main reason I am recommending it is because the developer responded to a Steam-related bug within hours - truly remarkable. The developer seems to have moved on to another project but there is so much potential that this game just doesn't quite hit, so here's a quick list of some major things I would like to (but probably never will) see implemented:

  • Money shows income and expense, food only shows usage - one has no idea if production is net positive except by watching supply over a few "cycles"
  • Food production and usage does not line up with stated "cycles"
  • There is no way to know the function of a building without trying to build it (no "query")
  • Homes can catch fire (and they will, often) - it costs 500 to repair but there is no downside (besides the visual) to just letting them burn - forever
