What players are saying
a fun and challenging puzzle game for relaxing gaming sessions. the graphics are pretty and the models are playfully detailed: there currently is a christmas tree in town square and the roads spawn little barrels that shoot fireworks! the music is very soothing aswell. i really enjoy playing this game and can recommend it to every puzzle fan!
Malmyr is a conglomerate of ideas that work to create a game that is for a certain niche of players. It looks like a city builder but it really isn't that. The game is more concerned with supply chains and resource generation. Something more akin to games like Industry Giant. The core of the game is figuring out logistics, placements of buildings and their connection through roads to create a smoothly working system where resources flow where you need them. That with a twist of adding some fantasy elements with the runes which have varied use from transforming a single tile to that of another type of using excavated ruins to them inscribe them with a series of runes to create words that will provide ''empire'' wide effects. Malmyr to me plays a lot like a Euro-style board game, where the end goal is to hoard as much resources while hitting your objectives to win. It is a definitely my type of game, but as said above it also is a very narrow niche. It's hard to recommend the game if you're going in expecting SimCity or Cities Skylines. Malmyr is not that, but if logistics based light puzzling sounds interesting to you it's definitely worth a shot. The game for me had only minor issues regarding the gameplay feedback, sometimes it gets really easy to miss if your resources are just getting lost, especially if your sight is not the best. Screen can be also hard to read if you're looking for something specific. But at the same time that might be a very subjective issue. Overall Malmyr is a type of game we don't get very often with some neat mechanics in form of runes and rune words as well lighthearted story bits sprinkled throughout the campaign.
