Hidden Cats in London is the second in the Hidden Cat series and it is simply fantastic. Such a wholesome, simple, addictive and fun little game. A great way to spend $AU3 and a few hours finding cats. If you like hidden object games (and cats), this would be a great addition to your Steam library.
Pros - Gorgeous, colourful art
- Bonus levels
- Over 500 cats to find
- Accessibility features
Cons - Audio volume was quite erratic
Gameplay
There are two main modes, normal or advanced. Normal has 100 cats to find and the cats are always in set locations. Advanced offers more variability as the cats locations are randomised, there are particular humans to locate as well as “special cats” which will unlock bonus levels. There are 5 bonus levels which are significantly smaller than the main, and only involve scrolling from side to side to reveal the entirety of the scene. I adored finding all of the cats in the main levels, as once all of the cats are located in a specific area, it will burst to life with colour. This also made it quite easy to know where to look, and where a kitty may be hiding!

The starting monochromatic illustration is stunning by itself, but once it starts being painted with colour it feels extremely rewarding. London comes to life with its double-decker red buses, the tower bridge and the London eye. The game also offers great accessibility settings such as colour blindness mode, dark mode, edge screen scrolling and more. For the price of the game, I must admit that I was quite shocked at its impressive quality.
Visuals & Sound
Beginning with the detailed monochromatic illustration and then seeing it slowly blossom into a colourful canvas of London is beautiful. Add cats spotted throughout the city and it is even better.

The cats softly meow in the background and the soundtrack was mostly very relaxing with a mixture of music to fit the scene. However, during the normal/advanced mode, the volume was very jumbled. Sometimes loud, sometimes soft, starting and stopping as I am dragging the screen around looking for cats. Although this was a minor issue, it still happened often enough to notice it.
Technical & Stats
This game was played using mouse only, and with the following PC specs.:
AMD Ryzen R5 7600x 5.4 GHz
32GB DDR5 5200 CL36 RAM
Radeon RX 6800 XT
2560×1440 resolution
Playtime: 1.5 hours and I have completed all normal, advanced and bonus levels (missing two hidden achievements)
Controller Recommended? No
Replayability value: Slightly. The cats locations do change in advanced mode.
Conclusion
Hidden Cats in London is an excellent hidden object game, especially for feline lovers. I have not yet played the first game that is set in Paris, but I will be sure to check it out, as well as any other future cities added into the series. For only $AU3, it is well worth the price and provides 1-2 hours of relaxing cat-finding wholesome entertainment.
