Originally we have just published the game to test the waters and expected absolutely nothing out of it yet. A big thank you to everyone for your patience as we've worked through the major obstacles surrounding electron and YouTube's new embedding limitations. We're pleased to share that we have, after countless hours of trying, come up with a solution that brings YouTube embedding along with PIP back! YouTube EmbeddingDue to changes in YouTube's embedding policy, we had to come up with a creative solution where we changed the origin of the app itself along with tweaking headers to get things working. While this was extremely challenging in and of itself, the bigger issue was that a different origin meant old user data would not load. Storage OverhaulWe took the opportunity from the obstacle presented above to do a systematic refactor of the entire game's save state system. The result is a faster and more reliable experience. Considering that we the game can same many times a second when simming at high speeds, increased efficiency here results in lower overhead and faster sim speeds. All this being said, we encourage all users to backup their saves out of an abundance of caution. The new build is programmed to detect old game states and migrate them to the new standard and origin (which takes up to 10 seconds when first opening the new build and you may or may not see a flash). It leaves your existing save state unchanged and if you go back to a legacy build, you will resume from the last state before opening version 2.5. Progress in 2.5+ is not backward compatible with legacy versions. If there are any issues, you can of course reach out to us at info@cinqmarsmedia.org and we can provide a code to restore your progress using the game's "restitution" feature. Next year, this will likely serve as the foundation for a much more polished Christmas DLC! Even though it may look like a small update, it took me longer than expected. Visually, I only have this screenshot to show you of some Library UI tweaks. I am in a position where customizing UI is getting easier by the day, and I have complete control over when things like text need to be updated. For instance, if I gain some KWL, it should change the value and the text. I use a pretty complicated system that involves chaining the game data and the text. Technicals if you're interested:There is a notification producer and a notification consumer that handles this behavior. The producer: emits a notification if the value it holds changes. The consumer: receives a notification from a producer or another consumer. Also emits a notification if a change was made and it passes it onto other consumers.KWL would be a producer, and the text would be a consumer because it relies on KWL to change via gameplay. KWL gets updated every game tick. At the start, this text updates once every 10 seconds. No need for text to check every frame. It is possible for other consumers to check if the text changed, for whatever reason....What this means moving forward:With more control over the UI, the better the UX and more interesting the UI can look.
